Course Description
Open to Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
THE COURSE WILL teach Basic techniques and skills using word processing software applied to practical business applications. Introduction to and formatting of a variety of documents will be taught. Professionalism and soft skills emphasized. (e.g. punctuality, print documents, etc.)
Course Objectives
THE STUDENT WILL learn to operate the keyboard with the touch method
Learn to start the computer and logon and logoff the network
Learn how to exit an application
Compose at the computer keyboard.
Learn how to access home area and save to their personal folder
Learn to save files to various places and formats
Learn what applications are available and work with those applications. (Word)
Learn to print documents
Learn the names and functions of various parts of a personal computer.
Learn the importance of proofreading.
Learn to listen to and follow instructions.
Learn to read and interpret instructions.
Develop neatness, a business-like attitude, and good work habits.
Learn how to format various kinds of personal and business documents.
Review basic language skills.

GRADING SCALE
Students will be asked to complete a variety of tasks, including discussions, worksheets, reports, informal oral reports, tests, and detailed projects. Each assignment is given a point value. Letter grades are based on the total percentage of points earned—93-100% A, 85-93% B, 76-85% C, 70-76% D. There will be opportunities to earn additional points based on completing assignments above and beyond the required tasks.
Parents: I value greatly your input and encourage you to call me anytime for any reason. If you have comments, suggestions, questions, complaints, or whatever, please do not hesitate to call. I understand and appreciate the important role you play in your child’s education. Let’s all have a good semester.

Communication is very important a course. To maintain a positive online environment, each of us is expected to follow these netiquette guidelines. Be advised that rules for student conduct apply in the online environment. Any use of electronic communication on school network, which includes Canvas, School email, etc. for flaming or other kinds of harassment may be treated as a student conduct violation in the Student Handbook.
• Show respect for the instructor, other students, and for the privacy of those in the online environment. Nothing threatening is ever appropriate.
• Express differences of opinion in a polite and rational way, maintaining a supportive academic environment.
• Stay focused by avoiding irrelevant topics in discussion or collaborative activities
• Use proper capitalization and punctuation rules. Use of all uppercase in a message is the equivalent of shouting and is considered offensive.
