BTS Arts
Course Overview and Introduction
Hello and welcome to the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Class. I am your instructor, Zachary Baggett. You may contact me by email at zrbaggett@graniteschools.org if you have any specific questions regarding this course, or about assignments as they arise. Please allow 48 hours for a response to your inquiries.
I currently teach in the Granite School District as an Art Specialist. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Art Education and have experience teaching in grades kindergarten through 12. If you are interested in seeing my work, some of it may be viewed at this website: https://imaginationvoyage.wordpress.com/
This class is considered an asynchronous online course. This means that we will not meet in person as a class, but we will at times post discussion boards and have collaborative assignments. These assignments will have a specific window of time for you to work and a due date, but there will be no official "meeting time" in which you will have to be present for a live video conference or live chat. Completing assignments before the designated due date is sufficient. It is recommended that you interact with the canvas work space several times weekly, this ensures that you have ample opportunity to interact with your peers posts and to do collaborative assignments
Learning Objectives
All content in this course was developed to meet the core standards for 6th grade according to the Utah State Office of Education. A link to these standards can be found here: http://www.uen.org/core/core.do?courseNum=1060
These standards will be addressed in assignments that you will complete over the course of the class.
One Letter point from each objective according to USOE standards will be addressed in our assignment each week.
For example:
Week 1: Objective 1
a. Explore a variety of art materials while learning new techniques and processes.
Week 2 Objective 1
b. Portray distant objects higher on the drawing paper.
Week 3: Objective 1
c. Use the horizon line to represent eye level in artwork. Etc.
Assessment and Measurement
Assignments come in several forms. Some assignments will require that you read text, watch video clips, or view images before submitting an assignment or a post to a discussion board on this website.
Some assignments will be text driven, and require you to turn in a paper electronically, by using .Doc, .Docx or Google Drive Format.
Some assignments will be Art Product oriented. You may be asked to provide evidence of a project in video, image, or written format. These files can be uploaded electronically to canvas under the assignments tab.
All assignments are not listed at this time, however you can expect a new assignment to be uploaded once a week on each Monday at 12:00 PM. The previous week's assignment will be due by that time. Weekly assignments will range in scope between 10-20 pts. Tests and Finals will be weighted approximately 3 times that of a typical assignment . Details will be given in advanced about upcoming finals under the announcements on the home page of Canvas.
