LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this 2-week unit is to provide an introduction to the Video Effects Interface available in the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Effects Library. The student will be introduced to: the 16 effects folders, specific effects within each folder, examples of video transformations created with tools from each effects folder, and step-by-step instructions on applying effects from specific folders.
Upon completion of this 2-week lesson, students will be able to:
- Define the capabilities of each special effect
- Recognize and identity each effect in-use
- Transform video through the application of special effects
- Combine special effects to create a customized look
APPROACHES TO INSTRUCTION
This course will be delivered entirely at a distance with no face-to-face meetings (FTF). The following are the minimum requirements for completing this class successfully. You must meet these requirements to participate in the class.
- Access to a personal computer (PC or MAC) with speakers, a mouse to complete the course work.
-High-speed internet service (DSL, Cable, etc.) is strongly recommended.
- Software requirements:
Recommended: Adobe Creative Cloud Student Account (Premiere Pro CC) or Adobe Premiere Pro (CS5 or CS6)

This 10 Day course will be delivered 100% online. On, average, you will be required to complete the following online activities during each daily course module (times are approximate):
Discussion posts 30 minutes daily
Video instruction 20 minutes daily
Reading Assignments/Video Tutorials 20 minutes daily
Premiere Pro Editing Practice 20 minutes daily
Other online assignments/activities 60 minutes total

This unit is based on the Georgia Department of Education CTAE Academic Standards for Audio/Video, Technology & Film II, as well as the Video Communication Objectives for successful completion of the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Certification Exam for using Adobe Premiere Pro.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Class Discussions: (20 points)
Please watch the Activation Strategy Videos, Read the daily reading assignments and Watch the Daily Lesson Videos prior to taking part in the daily class discussions. Class discussions are a chance for you to provide your personal view, feedback and knowledge of the special effect that will be introduced and practiced in each module. Reactions, feedback and critical thinking can only be authentic if you have had a chance to thoroughly review and digest the lesson for the day.
Premiere Pro Practice Activities: (20 points)
For each special effect introduced, analyzed and discussed, there will be an opportunity to learn how to apply an introductory version of the same special effect as an editor in Adobe Premiere Pro. There are written instructions and video tutorials to support your mastery of each special effect. Revisit your learning tools as often as necessary to master the technique. Each practice assignment should exported and added to your Google Website.
Website Portfolio Project: (60 points)
The cumulative project for this course is the creation of a portfolio that showcases each of the special effects you have mastered in the course. Each Premiere Pro practice assignment should be uploaded to an its own section within your Google Website. In addition to uploading your practice project, you should write-up a description of the special effect technique(s) used to complete the video; a rating system of the complexity of the process; tips & tricks for future use of this effect as an editor in Premiere Pro.

COURSE SCHEDULE
This is a 2 week course comprised of 10 modules. Class discussion posts and responses are due on the day that the module is assigned. However, Premiere Pro practice exercises will make-up the cumulative portfolio website project that is due on the final day of the course unit. While the progress of daily exercises will not be monitored, it is recommended that you complete practice exercises on the day it is assigned in the module. The content within the courses is scaffolded, thus students must begin with the Day 1 module. Access to modules are granted on the prerequisite that the prior module has been viewed.
