Class Work/Homework:
*Point System
The value of each assignment will vary based on the assignment. In general, class work and homework questions are each worth one (1) point. Test questions are worth two (2) points. Therefore, tests are worth twice as much as class assignments. Because students will not be allowed to have an individual textbook, most work must be completed in class
*Late Work
In-class assignments must be finished in a timely manner. You will always have sufficient time to complete work, so use your time wisely! If you don’t finish, come in during lunch, after school or before school on the following day. Points will be deducted for work turned in late. To make up work for days absent, you have one day for each day you were absent with no penalty. After that time, points will be deducted. The student is responsible for asking for and making up work for days absent.
*Grade Scale
A: 100 – 90%
B: 89 – 80%
C: 79 – 70%
D: 69 – 60%
F: Anything below 60%
REMEMBER…
As a Deming High School student, you are responsible for attending class every day and putting forth the effort necessary to excel in class. If you come to class each day prepared to learn, you will vastly increase your chances of achieving the success you desire in this class and in life in general.
Classroom Rules and Routines:
- Come to class prepared to learn, physically and emotionally. Bring required materials to class every day. This is important! You will need your pencil, pen, class notebook and paper every day!
- Come to class on time! You must be in your seat by the time tardy bell rings. Students who are not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings are considered tardy. Tardies will be tracked by the teacher and reported to the Attendance Office. Should a student be more than 15 minutes late to class, an absence (not tardy) will be recorded.
- 3. If a student comes to class late (less than 15 minutes), he or she will sign a student contract. On the fifth unexcused tardy, the contract and a disciplinary referral will be sent to the office. RANDOM SWEEPS WILL BE CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. STUDENTS IN THE HALLWAYS AFTER THE BELL RINGS WILL BE GIVEN 2 DAYS LUNCH DETENTION. Parents can excuse only three tardies per semester
- Attend to personal needs before coming to class. DO NOT ask to leave the classroom during the first 10 minutes of class or the last 5 minutes of class. Students must ALWAYS have a pass when leaving the classroom during class time. Students must sign out when using the pass. You will receive 3 passes per grading period. Use them wisely
- Remain in your seat unless you have permission to get up. Throw away scraps of paper/trash at the end of class. Sharpen your pencils before class or during time that will not disrupt class. You may not go outside to blow your nose.
- No food or beverages (other than water) allowed in the classroom. This includes chewing gum!
- Talk only when permitted! Be aware of the situation. Raise your hand to speak. Quiet talking will be allowed at times depending on the situation. Please remember that when the teacher or one of your classmates is speaking, you may not interrupt or have private conversation with your neighbor. I will remind you once and expect you to comply.
- Cell Phones are not allowed to be used in class. Keep them out of sight and on vibrate mode. On the first cell phone violation, the teacher will warn the student. After the second violation, the teacher will take the phone and return it to the student at the end of the day. On the third violation, the teacher will take the phone and send it to the office. The phone will then have to be picked up by an adult.
- Do not cheat!
Students caught cheating will receive a zero. Both the student who shares his/her work and the person who copies will suffer the same consequences. It is expected that you do your own work and do not let anyone copy it.
- Respect yourself! Use polite speech and body language. Impolite speech and behavior is unacceptable. Watch what you wear (clothing).
Remember: “YOUR ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN YOUR WORDS”
- Respect others!
Treat others the way you like to be treated. Be kind with your words and actions.
- Respect the property of others.
- Do not bother or distract others by talking, having your music on too loud, perfume/cologne, etc.
- Respect our classroom!
Let us keep it clean and in order. Do not write on desk, books, bulletin boards, walls or any other property that does not belong to you. This is defacing and/or destroying private property.
