Course Outline
Reading: Chapter readings from the textbook/eBook are assigned in each week’s Readings & Tools page in the Learning Management System (LMS). Also, see the Course Schedule at the end of the syllabus.
Discussion Forums: Students will participate in one online Discussion thread per week. The first three weeks of discussion will require outside research.
- WHAT: You will be writing three or more discussion posts per week. Your main post must be two to three substantive paragraphs (150+ total words) and include at least one APA-formatted citation/reference. Please follow up with two subsequent replies to colleagues. Each reply should consist of a relevant paragraph containing 50 words or more.
- WHY: Discussion questions are designed for you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the weekly material. This forum provides an opportunity to develop ideas and concepts with your instructor and peers. This discussion format assists with development of communication skills and critical thinking necessary for success in the modern workplace.
- HOW: Your posts should be substantive, demonstrate independent thought relevant to the topic, and encourage continued discussion. Please avoid simply repeating previous posts and agreeing. Provide supporting evidence for your ideas and opinions through the use of personal or work examples, relevant articles or websites, or concepts covered in the week’s readings. Best practice: compose and save your discussion post in a word processing document, check spelling and grammar, and then copy and paste the response in the Discussion forum.
- WHEN: To be eligible for full credit, your first post for any discussion question must be made by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. (MT), and you must post the remaining two before Saturday at 11:59 p.m. (MT). You are expected to participate in the ongoing discussion on at least two different days during the week.
- DISCUSSION TOPICS: [Instructor may modify questions and give optional Discussion Questions (DQs) based on Hybrid learning topics.]
Assignments: Students will complete at least one assignment/paper per week, for the first three weeks. These assignments will require outside research. Assignments can be submitted any time before the due date. The assignments may also serve as practice and preparation for the assessments. Implementing instructor feedback will benefit your grade. Check the LMS for assignment submission details.
Learning Resource System Assignment: The courses in this program (with the exception of clinicals and Externships) require that at least one assignment include research or study using the Institution’s Learning Resource System. The systems include the Academic Resource Center (also known as SHARC) for online students and the Learning Resource Center (also known as the library) for on-ground students. Other online learning networks are also available such as ProQuest, LIRN or other online resources such as journals, periodicals or whitepaper sources of legitimate information. Assignments that require using the Learning Resource System will be explained by your instructor and will require citation references of your sources as part of the assignment.
Assessments: Assessments are tests of your ability to apply the principles being studied.
Week 1: Assessment 1 – Chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Week 2: Assessment 2 – Chapters 9, 10, 11, 12
Week 3: Assessment 3 – Chapters 13, 14, 15, 16
Week 4: Assessment 4 – Chapters 17, 18, 19

Assignments Due: Thursday by 11:59 p.m. MT (Mountain Time) of the week assigned to receive full credit or as designated by your instructor.
Late Assignment Submission Policy. For Weeks 1-3 of the module, late assignments may be accepted up to one week from the due date with no more than a 20% reduction in grade. The instructor may set individual late policies, but the penalty for late work will not exceed a 20% reduction in grade.
Late assignments or assessments may be allowed in Week 4, but only if a student presents a mitigating circumstance (similar to those listed in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy). However, everything should be done to have the student complete coursework by the end of Week 4.
If the extension is granted as a result of mitigating circumstances, the student is given an Incomplete “I” grade for the course. The student will be allowed four weeks to complete the coursework. At the end of the four weeks, provided the coursework has been completed, a grade will be issued for the course. If the student does not complete the work in the time allotted, the “I” grade will be changed to an “F” grade.
