Subject area: Professional Development; Grades 9-12, Adult; Course enables student to gain professional experience, and to acquire and apply their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in an occupational field.

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide students with realistic on-the-job training experience to acquire and apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes in an occupational field. The respective cooperative teacher and employer provide on-the-job supervision. This on-the-job course may be repeated for credit. Specific job skills must be identified on a job market skills form. Selected job skills will be evaluated a minimum of once during each grading period. .

  1. GRADING SYSTEM –
  2. Class Assignments– Several assignments will need to be completed that will add up to be graded on a one-hundred point scale.  This includes weekly assignments and forum participation on the class website (Canvas).
  3. Final Project – Students will be constructing a cover letter and resume for their "dream" career. Directions will be posted under the "assignments" tab. This project is due by the last day of class at the very latest!This will also be worth 100 points. (Proof of hours, verification, and work evaluation)
  4. Pay Stubs/ Proof of Hours-It is a requirement of this class that every student enrolled must produce verifiable evidence that they have worked at least 90 hours per class section they are taking, preferably the pay stubs that they are given showing their name, their hours, and pay period dates. If the student cannot provide evidence of work hours, they will fail this class.
  5. Verification/Work Evaluation- The instructor must be able to verify with your employer that you are a legitimate employee. The student's employer MUST agree to all of the following or the student will fail this class:
    -At least one phone call from the instructor
    -Allow one on-site visit
    -Complete an evaluation of the student's work performance (Performance Evaluation)
  6. COURSE OBJECTIVES-

Perform designated job skills--The student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate job performance skills as outlined on the job skills form.
  • Apply safety procedures while on the job.
  • Display an acceptable level of productivity and quality control.
  • Demonstrate appropriate dress and grooming habits.
  • Demonstrate reacting to feedback in a positive manner.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and management.
  • Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability by working as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate pride in work by completing work correctly and quickly.
  • Demonstrate personal management skills (self-directed and self-controlled) including intrinsic motivation.
  • Display an understanding and appreciation for the dignity and worth of honest labor.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, creativity, innovation, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate ability to interpret and comply with employer rules and regulations.

Describe the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities--The students will be able to:

Perform designated record keeping skills--The student will be able to:

  • List the job skills to be performed in the specified occupation.
  • Maintain appropriate employment records (training agreement, time card, and job skills form).
