Vietnamese 180 is an elementary course, for heritage and non-heritage students, focusing on pronunciation and grammar, basic vocabulary, common idioms, listening, speaking, reading and writing simple Vietnamese sentences. In other words, students are expected to acquire aural and oral skills with distinction of linguistic features, especially the tones, of the Vietnamese language. They are also expected to be able to read short paragraphs from textbooks or selected clips from newspapers or magazines whose terms are within the corpus vocabulary. Lastly, students are expected to acquire the ability of writing simple sentences frequently used in conversations, in notes or personal letters. These four skills will enable students to endear themselves with some knowledge of present Vietnamese culture. These goals will be enhanced through discussions as well as supplementary materials brought up by the instructor and reinforced with explanations in the Discussion Forum .

Complete three quizzes, a midterm and a final examination online.
Preview your quizzes, midterm and final reviews, which are available before you actually take the test. Local students can access their test reviews at the nearest Coastline libraries/media centers.
In addition, you are required to attend the Orientation and visit Discussion Forum (DF). Orientation meeting is worth 18 points and weekly visit to the DF is worth 2 point towards your final grade.

Quiz tests and Exams (Midterm + Final) three aspects for studying strategies:
a. Students master the lessons for an insight of the content of the material.
b. Students are well prepared for the test before taking it.
c. Students comply with the regulations of class.
d. Many have tried hard to do extra work for extra credits. -
One day after the final exam, 100 per cent of students have successfully completed quiz 1, 2, the midterm. Quiz 3 and the final.
This semester enjoyed a successful outcome of 100 per cent students´ attendance and performance.
In addition, more students turned in extra credits than ever before. Some showed their enthusiasm by suggesting more topics for discussion. A number of others showed their interest in exploring subjects related to Vietnamese tradition being practiced in the country and abroad. - New Quizzes were redesigned and are implemented. Feedback from students are counted as extra credit points counted toward their final grades. 95 per cent of students´ feedback has been recognized valid and their contribution has been granted with points as extra credit projects.

The total for final grades includes academic performance (90 per cent) and class activities (10 per cent, such as: posting ideas, comments on the Discussion Forum, extra credit). Points for ATTENDANCE and EXTRA CREDIT are not posted. They are maintained by your instructor lest they will affect the SLO.
