Class Description:

In this class, we will develop Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We will also learn about Spanish culture. This will include viewpoints, customs, and holidays experienced in the Spanish-speaking world. Basic geography will also be encompassed in this course as it relates to Spanish- speaking countries (location of countries, their capitals, etc. )

 

Text and Workbook:

Additional materials needed:

Colored Pencils, highlighters, pencils, binder with loose leaf paper OR spiral notebook

 

  1. The following grading system will be followed as stated in the school handbook:

100-90 =A

89-80 =B

79-70 =C

69-65 =D

64 & under=F

 

  1. Grades are averaged accordingly:   

Daily Assignments (including homework, daily assignments, participation grades): 5-20 points

Quizzes and written work: 30-40 points

Unit tests: 50-75 points

Projects: 100 points

Cumulative Tests (2 or more Units) 75-100 points

 

  1. All assignments must have the proper heading, given in Spanish, which will include name, date, page number (or title given by Señora DeWinter) and activity number.  Failure to include the full heading will result in the loss of 10 points from each assignment.

 

Electronic devices will be used to enrich, expand, and explore in the classroom. Utilizing cell phones, e-readers, and tablets is a privilege that comes with expectations. Students will be made fully aware of when cell phone/device use is acceptable.

Expectations for usage in the classroom:

- Electronic devices will be used to seek information (from the internet and other sources) relevant to classroom activities.

- Electronic devices will be used to text discussions to secure and student-privacy-protected message boards.

Rules for usage in the classroom:

-Electronic devices will not be used to text/message for personal and or/social reasons during class.

-Electronic devices will be used responsibly.

-Electronic devices will be used only at times and for purposes directed by Señora DeWinter.

-When texting/messaging for classroom purposes, students will only text/message information relevant to the class activity, and will refrain from adding unrelated and/or inappropriate information.

 

Consequences for misuse:

Should a student be caught violating the rules above and/or engaging in activities that are obviously inappropriate for mobile phone use in the classroom the following will occur:

1st offense: Warning

2nd offense: Student is given lunch detention.

3rd offense: Student is no longer permitted to use mobile phone in class.

Additionally, Señora DeWinter reserves the right to ban any student from mobile phone usage in class at any time should the mobile phone misuse be overwhelmingly inappropriate.

 

GUARDIANS:

Electronic devices are costly, and this classroom wishes to respect your family’s rules with regards

to ownership and usage of electronic devices. Your student is NOT required to have an electronic device; alternative methods will be presented for students who do not have electronic devices or refrain from electronic device usage at school.

 

Señora  DeWinter- Spanish Class Expectations

 

  •      I expect all students to follow the golden rule, treat others as you want to be treated.
  •         Bullying will not be tolerated.
  •         Everyone is expected to participate during group discussion, this will affect your participation grade.
  •          Always respect other classmates’ opinions. You may not always agree with the opinions of others. Healthy debate and discussion is always welcome in this class. Belittling, shouting, name-calling, cursing, or other verbal or physical confrontation will not be tolerated. Let’s all be mature and respectful.
  •         Cheating/Plagiarized work on an assignment will result in a zero for that assignment.
  •         Turn in assignments on time and completed. See me immediately if you are having issues with any assignment. Tutoring will be available and a schedule will be established after school starts.
  •        If you are going to be absent you will need to follow the absentee policy in the student handbook with regard to turning in assignments. If you know you will be absent ahead of time, I encourage you to get the assignment from me and turn it in before your absence. I will allow you to take tests early.
  •        Per the student handbook, unexcused absences will result in a zero for that assignment.
  •        Be sure to check Google Classroom for assignments and class updates.
