Syllabus

This module is part of a broader training program and is expected elapse a nine-week period. It is subdivided into four unit segments as outline below.

 

UNIT/TIME

FOCUS

 

Unit 1

2 Weeks

Topic:   The Nature of the 21st Century Classroom

 

 

Goal:     Deepen the awareness of 21st century trends in education amongst ESHS teachers.

 

 

Objectives: During this unit, the participant will;

  1. Research, identify and summarize 2-4 articles on the nature of the 21st century classroom.
  2. Identify five (5) attributes of the 21st century classroom that are most appealing to him/her.
  3. Create a prioritized list of best practices for education at ESHS.

 

 

 

 

Unit 2

2 Weeks

Topic:   Critical Reflection in Education Practices (Critical Friendship)

 

Goal:     Promote reflection in education practices at ESHS. 

 

 

Objectives: During this unit, the participant will;

  1. Identify one (1) literature source that focus on the value of reflectivity in practice.
  2. Conduct evaluations of self and self in terms of readiness status as a  21st century teacher' 

 

 

 

 

Unit 3

2 Weeks

Topic:   Improving Education Through Collaboration (Communities Of Practice)

 

 

 

Goal:     Increase value in education practice through collaboration with other professionals.

 

 

Objectives: During this unit, the participant will;

  1. Research and identify a minimum of 5 benefits of collaboration in practice
  2. Identify at least two institutions/forums that may be worth teaming up with as an individual and as a department (science).

 

 

 

 

Unit 4

2 Weeks

Topic:  Taking Action – A Proactive Approach

 

 

 

Goal:    To address in a proactive and professional manner the issue of limited hardware and connectivity at the institution.

 

 

Objectives: During this unit, the participant will;

  1. Identify and prioritize the IT needs of the institution, its teachers and students.
  2. Create and discuss an official document for administration and government, addressing the IT needs of the institution.
