Course Syllabus
Class Expectations
Technology 101
- This course is constructed on two levels: (1) A self-paced overview of technology essentials, and (2) an independent study on a technology topic of your choosing. There are no lectures in this class. Mrs. Cat is available as you need to help you with your course work.
- Each week you are responsible for:
- Reviewing information for your technology quizzes.
- Taking a quiz over technology essentials. (Worth 25% of your grade)
- Creating a summary and taking a screen shot of your independent study materials. (Worth 25% of your grade)
- Turning all work in on time.
- You will take a pre-test and a post-test over technology essentials. The post-test is worth 50% of your grade.
- You may pick a Udemy course to work on throughout the summer session as your independent study. If you finish your Udemy course early, you will be required to start on a new course to work on for the duration of the summer session. You may only pick from the pre-selected list located in Canvas for your independent study. Courses available for your selection are: PowerPoint, Excel, Web Design (HTML), Photoshop, JAVA, Android App Design, Microsoft Office, and PC Game Design. YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE COURSE YOU PICK ONCE YOU’VE SUBMITTED YOUR CHOICE!
- You will have two quizzes your first week. One is over the Canvas LMS, the second is over this list of expectations. You must score at least 5 points on the Class Expectation quiz in order to move on through the course.
- Weekly quizzes are due the last class of the week (except for the last week, you will not have a quiz the last week of summer session). They are open from May 27th until the Sunday the week the quiz is due. You may take your quizzes early if you like. If you finish a quiz late, you will be deducted 2 points from your final grade (this can add up to 10% of your total grade). If you do not complete a quiz by the expiration date, you cannot make it up for any reason. It is highly recommended that you work on quizzes early in the case of an emergency or if you get behind in other classes.
- There is no time limit on the quizzes. They can be taken open note. You may only take the quizzes once.
- Once an assignment (summaries/screenshots and quizzes) expires you cannot make it up for any reason. You may work on all of your work early and turn things in early. You will have the full week of class time to complete your work.
- Summaries and screenshots are due on the last class day of the week (except for the last week, your assignment is due that Wednesday). You may submit your summary/screenshot at any time during the week that it is due.
- There is a mid-course survey that is available for extra credit. You may take this during week two.
- You will take your final (post) test on the last day of class (Thursday). This is worth 50% of your grade. There is a practice test available for you to take at any time to help you review; students that take the practice test will receive extra-credit. You may take the practice test multiple times. It is highly recommended you take the practice test before taking the post test. All of your quiz material will be covered in the post-test.
