Syllabus
This Fellowship training is an exploration of the use of instructional technology in STEM and career and technical education, and includes teacher and
student technology standards, landmark studies related to using technology in education, and utilization of technology in the classroom. This training
is offered as part of The Student and Teacher Technology Transformation Teams (ST4STEM) Project, funded by a National Science Foundation Grant
and administered by the Maricopa Community Colleges in Tempe, Arizona. The ST4STEM Fellowship focuses on increasing the ability of STEM and CTE
teachers and their students to collaboratively learn and apply STEM skills using design-based learning and technology tools.
- Summarize the history of technology in career and technical education (and other STEM fields)
- Analyze technology standards for career and technical education (and other STEM fields)
- Examine landmark studiesIdentify issues related to implementing technology in the classroom
- Summarize the role of the teacher in implementing technology in the classroom
- Identify core technology skills for career and technical education teachers (and other STEM teachers)
- Locate and evaluate professional materials to support personal and professional growth
- Analyze issues relating to the integration for technology in the classroom
- Use technology in the discipline/subject for learning
- Identify issues that may negatively impact the implementation of technology in the classroom
- Collaborate with students, colleagues and industry experts to create and assess design-based learning activities
- Understand the relationship between Common Core, 21st Century Skills, Next Generation and Design/Project-Based learning
- Explore instructional strategies such as blended/flipped classrooms and the use of educational games

Establish connections with other CTE and STEM teachers for collaborative professional work and student activities
Non-Grant Participants

Non-Grant Participants, or NGPs, are welcome to participate a lot, or a just a little :-) To help navigate the course, below is a chart that details content and when it becomes available. Once open, it will remain open for the duration of the semester. However, NPGs MUST complete Module 1. Using this chart, NGPs can jump in as time, interests or needs allow. NGPs are encouraged to be a part of the course community, and share work, resources and posts with other NGPs and grant Fellows. NGPs who complete at least 80% of the course will receive professional development hours. |
Office Hours
This is a fully online training so there are no physical office hours. Your trainer will check email and the learning management systems a minimum of
twice per day including weekends. Project staff will also be checking periodically in order to ensure your questions are answered as promptly as possible.
Course Content and Syllabus
This course is made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and is considered a pilot program. What does that mean?
It means that this program is in a testing phase. Our goal is to meet grant objectives by providing the most comprehensive experience possible
for our participants. To do so, based on your feedback and other considerations, we are likely to make changes during the semester to improve your
experience and the efficacy of the course.
