About the Course:
This course will cover the history and geography of the world beginning with early civilizations and ending with the issues that we face today. During the first semester we will trace the development of civilizations from the largely isolated prehistoric man to the Reformation. The second semester will look at how civilizations become more interconnected through exploration and global conflicts. Lessons learned from history can be applied to today's. Students can expect to make connections from the past to understand present world events and make predictions about the future.
Office Hours: I am willing to help anyone that asks for tutoring. There are several WH tutors, and I will give you the schedule when it is finished.
Expectations: I promise to respect you, be honest with you, listen to you and work hard. All I ask from you is the same – be honest and hard working, listen to me, and be respectful to yourself, your classmates, other people’s property, and me. I expect you to assume responsibility for your learning and actions. Please bring your book and notebook to everyclass.
How to Study: By reading all assignments, doing all class work and homework and studying for the tests, you should be prepared for both my tests and the TAKS test.
Grading:
Grades will be calculated based on daily assignments (notes, maps, homework, etc.), quizzes (aka Learning checks), projects and tests.
Minor grades 75%
Tests 25%
- Students will be expected to do their work in class, as given and finished on time. Therefore, if a student fails to turn their work in on time or have it done by the specified time, they will receive a 0. However, they will one full week to complete the work and turn it in either before or after school, or during Wed. Advocate or their Friday class tutorials for a 70. They may use this PRIVELAGE up to 3 times a six weeks. After that, all late or missing work will be a 0.
- If a student fails a test- they will be given the chance to do corrections, if they do those, then they will receive an additional 5 points to their test score. If that is not enough to bring them to passing, then they will have the opportunity to write an essay during tutorials for credit up to a 70 within a week of failing the test.
Make-up Work:
Students are responsible for making up all missed assignments. It is up to you to get the assignments!!! You have as many days absent to complete your work for no penalty. If you fail to turn your make up work in on time, you will be given a 0 and expected to follow the late work policy.
Notebook Guidelines:
You will be required to keep an organized World History notebook that will be stamped as you complete the work. Your notebook will not count for ANY credit unless you bring in your stamped notebook sheet on the day it is due. Class assignments will be checked (stamped) or graded everyday. The notebook grade you receive will reflect completed or incomplete assignments. It is required that you have your notebook everyday!
