Required Equipment: An external hard drive with usb and firewire 800 connectivity.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The art of animation (animated sequences, special effects, titles, etc.) using the computer. Construction characters, background graphics, color, scaling, storyboard, cells, timing, editing, and surface rendering. Screening and discussion of selected animated short films and videos.
COURSE COMPETENCIES
- Compare and contrast aesthetic characteristics of traditional animated film and computer animated video.
- Describe the hardware and software characteristics of computer animation.
- Describe the use of graphic files and file management in an animation program
- Construct graphic characters through tools, textures,rendering, fill, color, and design applications.
- Design background graphics aesthetically and interface with outside sources.
- Execute cel block and cel sequence of aesthetically designed animation.
- Draw a storyboard which applies appropriate artistic concepts and aesthetic design components.
- Execute animation which uses appropriate timing and good composition of art elements.
- Produce animation to video.

CLASS PROCEDURES
- Homework and projects are due on the nights indicated on the course outline. It will be collected on examination nights.
- Attendance is required. Ten percent of your grade is based on attendance and points may be deducted from your grade if more than one class is missed. The instructor should be notified in advance if you will not be attending a class (via text or email). The instructor reserves the right to drop any student who misses three consecutive classes.
- Withdrawals are subject to current college policy and are the responsibility of the student. The instructor may withdraw any student who has missed more than 2 classes.
- Classes may be recorded with the permission of the instructor.
- Students are subject to and must comply with college policies found in the current College Catalog and Student Handbook.
- Late work will be accepted at the instructor's discretion.
- Cell phones must be turned off during the class period (this includes texting). Please respect your fellow students and instructor by leaving the room if you need to make an emergency phone call.

Statement Concerning Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as presenting the work of another as one’s own. More than four consecutive words from a source other than the writer constitute plagiarism when the source is not clearly identified in appropriate document format.
From the GCC Student Handbook:
“Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person with out full and clear acknowledgement. Is also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials.”
