Discussions and Assignments

Week 1                          Using Google Slides to create a "Choose your own adventure" short story

Discussion: Do you think that creating a "Choose your own adventure" story using Google Slides can enhance your teaching skills and your students' learning experiences?  Can you elaborate on that? What do you know about fair use and copyright material and resources that you might find on the internet? How would you reference a resource taken from the internet? Why is it important to do so? How could Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia help you improve your presentation?

Assignment: Create a "Choose your own adventure" short story using Google Slides

Week 2 Using Google Slides to create an interactive quiz

Discussion: Do you feel that your students get intimidated by quizzes and so they do not perform as well as they should have? Do you have an alternative to paper-and-pencil quizzes that allow you to check on your students' learning? Have you created an interactive quiz before? Would an interactive quiz work well in your classroom? Can your students access the quiz from a technological device in your classroom? If they cannot, then can you think of how you might conduct this quiz with your students? Why is it important to teach your students about their use of copyright resources they copy from the internet? How will you introduce this topic to your students? How will you encourage them to reference the resources they copy from the internet? How can you use Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia to create your quiz?

Assignment: Create an interactive quiz using Google Slides

Week 3 Using a mobile device to create a short video and edit it using YouTube

Discussion: In what ways do you check on student learning now? Have you ever had them show what they learned on a large cardboard as a project? Would you consider trying a new approach for checking on their learning? How about having them create a video and edit it to comply with the specific topic? Do you think that this would be feasible to implement in your classroom? How would you implement it? How would you encourage your students to try a new approach to learning?

Assignment: Create a short video and edit it using YouTube video editor.

Course Expectations

The expectations for this course is that you will participate in the discussions in an active manner that is polite and non-judgmental. You are also expected to create your projects and submit them on Sunday (the last day of the week). If you need an extension, please send me an email letting me know the reasons for the extension before the submission date by 24 hours (Saturday). In addition, you will be expected to collaborate with team members on enhancing your projects by giving and receiving peer reviews.

 Assessments

Since this is an elective course, the assessments will be composed of the discussions and the assignments submitted to the instructor, which follows the authentic, performance-based assessment. The discussions and collaboration between groups will be graded based on the checklists that accompany each module, and the assignments will be marked as 'Complete/Incomplete' based on whether or not you submit your final project.
