          • Subjective [essays] Section: 30pts
            • As with the midterm exam, three essay prompts will be given one week prior to the final exam; two must be chosen, written, and turned in at the beginning of the class time on Thursday, December 15th.

The essay prompts may be striking similar to the following:

  1. Compare and contrast the public theatre of the English Renaissance (such as The Globe ...remember, from England, not SD!), the Spanish Golden Age (the corrales stages), and the French Golden Age (the jeu de paume stages), especially focusing on origins, evolution, and the theatrical uses possible within the contexts of those origins and evolution.
  2. Discuss how the three plays read and studied for class since the mid-term relate to, and are reflective of, the ages out of which they come.  The plays are Life is a DreamHamletThe Misanthrope.
  3. What is the most significant period of the seven periods we have studied this semester? Justify your support of the most important and significant period in an essay.  The periods are Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, the Spanish Golden Age, the English Renaissance, the Italian Renaissance, and the French Golden Age.
