College Readiness Mathematics

Course Description

  • The purpose of this course is to enable students to transition into credit-bearing college mathematics classes which require a minimum benchmark mathematics score of 19 on the ACT. This course is a direct result of implementing Senate Bill 1 legislation which requires the development of a “unified strategy to reduce college remediation rates by at least fifty percent (50%) by 2014 from what they are in 2010” (“Unified strategy for college and career readiness, 2010)

Grading Policy

  • Assignments will be scored on a scale of 0 – 4 using a standards based grading system along with student data tracker according to learning targets covered in class.

    • 1” binder with graph paper only
    • Graph spiral notebook (2)

Course Policies

  • Respect Others (Teacher & Classmates)
  • Treat others the way you want to be treated
  • No Talking when anyone is talking to the whole class
  • Be On Task
  • Be Prepared (Pencil; Binder, Text Book, Paper)

Course Procedures (Classroom)

Entering the classroom (1st 5 minutes of class)

  • Quietly ; Get your assigned calculator as you enter the class. Sharpen pencil as well.
  • Pencil Upgrade will be available when a scholar doesn’t have a pencil
Drinks/Food
  • No Food (Food will be confiscated and given to the student at the end of class)
  • Plastic bottle drinks only; other drinks will be handled at the discretion of the teacher

Leaving the classroom

  • No passes out 1st 10 Minutes or Last 10 minutes

End of Class Dismissal

  • Teacher will dismiss students (Bell does not dismiss students) on time

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

We will be utilizing mobile devices often (smart phones/tablets) for learning. It is not at all required you own one and when you are in the classroom, I recommend 100% that you use the school’s wifi to avoid any data usage.

Extra Help Opportunities

  • I am available after school on Monday or Wednesdays during our Extended School Day Opportunities. I will be happy to arrange extra help sessions for anyone who requests them as needed.
