Course Syllabus
Course Description
This course is designed to help college graduates learn effective job search strategies and communicate effectively to find a job after college. The content is divided into four modules. Each module will take approximately 6 to 8 hours to complete.
Once the student completes all four modules, the participant will have the necessary documents to apply to the job of their choosing.
Course Objectives
Module 1: Networking
- Relate elements of the communication model to the job search process
- Understand how social networking impacts personal branding and professional image
- Design LinkedIn profiles that are appropriate, professional, and marketable
- Implement a face-to-face and online networking plan
Module 2: Resumes
- Identify effective and ineffective components of resumes
- Analyze job descriptions to develop a custom resume for an open position
- Synthesize and quantify all relevant work experience and coursework
- Create an effective resume to increase the likelihood of being chosen by an Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
Module 3: Cover Letters
- Research an organization to understand the organizational culture (organizational communication)
- Describe relevant skills and experiences as it relates to an open position in the field
- Develop a cover letter using a job description and research done about organizational culture
Module 4: Interviewing
- Analyze interview questions to determine what the interviewer is asking
- Prepare organic responses to frequently asked interview questions
- Evaluate verbal and nonverbal communication in a mock interview using
