Instructions

In this quiz, you will decide whether each sentence needs commas or not.

  • Use a comma when the adverbial clause is first - the comma goes at the end of the clause.

If you practice hard, you can do it!

  • Do not use a comma if the adverbial clause is after the main clause.

You can get this if you do all of the lessons.

  • Use a comma with FANBOYS conjunctions when there is a subject-verb (clause) on both sides.

She didn't go the party, so her friends were really mad at her.

  • Do not use a comma with FANBOYS (and, but, or) when they are just a list of two items.

John and Mary have a house and a boat.

  • Use a comma with and/but/or when they join a list of 3 or more items.

John, Mary, and Julie went out to the movies.
