In this Module, there are 5 assignments. Every instructor will have different requirements in your course, so the first and most important directions for you to follow are ANY specific directions your instructor may have given you.

This particular module covers one of the topics taught in ESL 301. Nonetheless, you can still do the exercises, but again, please follow ANY directions your specific instructor gave you. The assignments may include something from WC (Writing Clearly- hard copy textbook), AZ3 and AZ2 (Azar Blue and Azar Red – online in the LAC only) or CM (Coleman Modules- various online sites).

LAC Exercise Log

For all the exercises completed while in the LAC, print the LAC Exercise Log, and fill it out as you go to be submitted to your instructor. The LAC Exercise Log has spaces for 25 exercises, so you won’t need to print that many! Remember, you are required to spend 24 hours over the course of the semester in the LAC. You can complete these modules while you are there!

To fill out the LAC exercise log, you will need the follow information:

The date you completed the exercise – the month and day is the most important.
What source you used (WC, AZ3, CM, ,or other) – circle the appropriate source.
Exercise # or Name – include the no. or name.
Time Spent and or Score – include the time for each exercise or the overall time spent that session.
LAC Signature – have it signed when you have completed the day’s work!

Writing Clearly (WC)

For Writing Clearly, in ESL 301 and ESL 201, you are required to get a copy of Writing Clearly. If you don’t have the book, copies are on reserve in the IVC library, but must stay in the library itself.

How you complete your work in Writing Clearly will vary from instructor to instructor. Some possibilities may be:

Write in your book and show the work to the instructor in class.
Photocopy the pages, write on them, and turn in to your instructor in class.
Write the answers on a separate sheet of paper and turn in to your instructor in class.

Please verify how your specific instructor requires the Writing Clearly assignments to be submitted.

Azar Blue AND Azar Red Online in the LAC (AZ3 & AZ2)

You must be in the LAC to complete these exercises. The log-in information for this online site is only used in the LAC. Check with the LAC staff for log-in information.

As you complete these Azar exercise, track them on your LAC exercise log. That log will most likely be submitted to your instructor in class.

It is possible that your instructor will require different exercises than the ones assigned in this module. If so, ALWAYS follow your instructors directions first.

Coleman Modules (CM)

The Coleman Modules online sites can be used at any computer with internet access. These assignments are designed to supplement the Writing Clearly and Azar assignments. As such, for many module you will have the Writing Clearly and Azar too, but for others, you will only find Coleman Modules.

Please be aware that these websites are written by others not associated with IVC or your class, so if there is a problem with one of them, little can be done to fix it. If you do run across a dead link or an inappropriate site, you can, if you’d like to, inform Mrs. C at ccoleman@ivc.edu .

Most of the Coleman module online sites provide interactive immediate feedback, but some don’t. If a particular site doesn’t give you a score, then you can’t record that score on your LAC exercise log. IN that instances, just record the time.

As always, first and foremost follow whatever instructions your classroom teacher may give you.
