Instructions
Tutors: Complete this reading exercise.
Apply the same process to your tutoring sessions with any text. Tutees will be coached to utilize these strategies to comprehend text. For the actual reading choose one strategy below:
- Silent read first (tutees) with option to volunteer and read aloud in small groups. This strategy reduces anxiety to read aloud without practice.
- Choral Read: Tutors and tutees read the text aloud (quietly) at the same time. This strategy promotes clear pronunciation and rate of speech.
- Cloze Read: Tutors read aloud and intentionally delete words for the tutee to say aloud. This strategy keeps the tutees on task and promotes vocabulary development based on the word selection.
- Buddy Read: Take turns reading the text with the tutee. Stop at the end of each section to clarify meaning and new vocabulary. This strategy promotes reading comprehension.
