Flying My Helicopter at the Beach

This weekend, when we were at the beach, my sister taught me how to operate a remote control helicopter. Operating the remote control took some coordination. I had to remember which buttons to click in order to maneuver the helicopter in different directions. I also had to be sure I kept the remote’s antenna pointed towards the helicopter so it could transmit signals. Once I got the hang of it, I started having fun. I made the helicopter zoom over the surfers’ heads.

We were surprised to see so many people at the beach. Especially after the recent shark attack. There were signs posted at the entrance to the beach that read,  “Beware of Sharks”. But no one at the beach seemed worried about the sharks. People were swimming, tanning, and surfing. The beach had a tunnel you could walk through. We took the helicopter inside it. We watched the helicopter’s lights, as it whirred from one end of the tunnel to the other. We could also hear our voices echo inside the tunnel.

On our way out of the tunnel, a group of students from my old high school showed up. I asked what teacher they were with, and they said they came with Mrs. Flinn. She was my favorite teacher. She was a fun teacher. It was always hard to distinguish Mrs. Flinn from the students because she looked so young. It was great to see her, and to say hi to some of my old friends.
