Now that your badge is added to your module, you can adjust the settings to determine who will receive this badge and what they will need to do in order to earn it. To adjust the settings for your badge, just click the link to the badge from your module. When you do, you will see the screen shown in the image below.

The settings are pretty straight forward, but below is a short key to each of these elements and some tips for managing your badges:

Badge name: Have fun with this. Badges are about gamification of performance assessments.
Badge icon: You can use any image creation program or use the badge designer built in to Canvabadges.

NOTE: We will be working on badge icon design in the next module of this course. You can leave the default image for now and change it at any time later.

Badge description: Explain the purposes for this badge.
Explanation of requirements: Explain how students will earn this badge.
Approximate hours for completion: This is optional and doesn't affect who will earn the badge. This is just a guideline for students so they know about how many hours this badge might take to earn.
Evidence: If you check this box, students will be required to share a URL (website address) in order to earn the badge. Checking this box also checks the next one because manual approval/review of the URL will be required.
Manual Approval: Check this box if you'd like to review any other requirements for this badge that might not be able to be controlled by the other settings for awarding the badge. These could include in-class activities or other assignments that don't appear in Canvas.
Credits: Checking this box will allow for students to earn credits for completing multiple modules. A total number of credits to be accumulated to earn the badge is required and an additional option to enter the number of credits needed to complete the badge will appear. AWESOME NOTE: Credits can be awarded for completion of module components or mastery of learning outcomes.
Final Grade Cutoff: What is the final grade need to earn the badge for the course? Leave this blank if you don't require a final grade score for students to earn this badge.
Modules requiring completion: You can select one or more modules that will need to be completed in order to earn the badge. If you don't have requirements for completion of the module set up, students who click the link to the badge in your module will earn your badge. For modules with multiple elements (pages, assignments, quizzes, etc.) you can require as few or as many indicators for module completion as you would like.
Public: Do you want to share your badge with everyone in your instance of Canvas? Typically, you should leave this unchecked unless you know that other teachers that you work with would like to use your badges.
SAVE: When you are all done, click save and you are ready to move to the next step.
